Root Canal Treatment

What is a Root Canal?

Relief from pain, not the cause of it.

Root canal treatment (endodontic therapy) is a procedure designed to save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. When the pulp (the soft tissue inside your tooth) becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe pain and abscesses.

Signs You Might Need a Root Canal

  • Severe toothache, especially when chewing or applying pressure.
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures.
  • Discoloration (darkening) of the tooth.
  • Swelling and tenderness in nearby gums.

The Procedure

Contrary to popular belief, modern root canal treatment is very similar to having a routine filling and usually can be completed in one or two appointments, depending on the condition of your tooth and your personal circumstances.

  • Step 1: Anesthesia is applied to ensure you are comfortable.
  • Step 2: The infected pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected.
  • Step 3: The tooth is filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha.
  • Step 4: A crown or filling is placed to restore the tooth to its full function.
